Who are PFP Fertilisers and what do we do?Andrew de Lautour - PFP Fertilisers

My background has been mechanical engineering, specialising in the development of new machinery and industrial processes. Some 25 years ago, as a contractor for Skygrow Ltd, I was involved in the development and operation of New Zealand’s first North Island aerial application of fine particle lime and fertiliser slurries by fixed wing aircraft.

During that experience two main things struck me. First were the very obvious, positive effects, clearly visible from the air in as little as six weeks that the treatments were having on farm pastures. Being an inventive person, and because I have to know how things work, these such obvious results lead me down the path of the fascinating, ongoing study into lime, chemistry, soil science, plant biology, animal nutrition and soil microbial life. It might be fair to say that a passion for soil science has become an obsession.

“We are now able to supply farmers with a complete fine particle fertiliser product range.”

The second was the fact that to be able to deliver a realistic quantity of lime flour to a pasture, a high percentage of water was required in the mix and this water had to be flown on at a significant cost to the farmer. These two observations led me to develop a Prilled fine particle product that could be flown onto a farm without any water or specialised spraying equipment.

Today we operate out of our purpose designed and built manufacturing plant in Waipukurau. We employ nine staff and have expanded the PFP product range from just Prilled Lime flour to the point where we are now able to supply farmers with a complete fine particle fertiliser product range.

We are happy to visit your farm, take soil and/or herbage samples for independent analysis (laboratory charges apply) and we will provide you with clear, reasoned, no obligation recommendations.
